Los Angeles County Inmate Information Resource

Los Angeles County Booking Log and Recent Arrest Information

Recent arrest information may not appear immediately. Booking, identity verification, medical screening, classification, and transfer processing all affect when a record becomes visible in the LASD locator.

How Do I Check a Recent Arrest in Los Angeles County?

The LASD Inmate Information Center is the primary resource for Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department custody records. To search effectively:

  • Search using the person's complete legal name and date of birth exactly as they appear on identification.
  • Recently arrested individuals may not appear immediately — processing can take time depending on the arresting agency and current workload.
  • When the name is common, review results carefully and cross-reference with date of birth and other identifying information.
  • The city where the arrest occurred does not necessarily identify the current holding facility.
  • A person may begin at an LAPD station, an LASD station, or a municipal police station before being released or transferred to a county facility.
  • Verify information through the responsible agency's locator or by calling the custody information line directly.

How to Search Los Angeles County Booking Information

  1. Confirm the person's full legal name and date of birth.

  2. Identify the arresting agency or city, if known.

  3. Submit an inmate inquiry to request current custody status, booking details, and facility location.

  4. Check the appropriate LAPD or municipal custody resource when the arrest involved a city police department.

  5. Search again later if booking or transfer processing appears incomplete.

  6. Call the inmate-information assistance line at 1-800-874-1151 when online results remain unavailable.

Why Is a Recently Arrested Person Not Showing in the Search?

A missing result does not confirm whether an arrest occurred or whether a person was released. Common reasons a record may not appear include:

  • Booking is still underway at the arresting agency.
  • Identity verification has not been completed.
  • Medical or mental-health screening is in progress.
  • The individual remains at a local police or sheriff's station and has not yet been transferred to county custody.
  • Transfer into county custody has not been completed.
  • The person was cited and released at the scene.
  • The person posted bail or received another form of release before full processing.
  • The spelling, date of birth, or other search information does not match the available record.
  • The arrest occurred outside Los Angeles County.
  • The person was transferred to another jurisdiction, state custody, or federal custody.

LASD, LAPD and Municipal Police Booking Records

Los Angeles County has multiple law-enforcement agencies, each with separate booking and custody systems.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD)

LASD operates the county jail system, including Men's Central Jail, Twin Towers Correctional Facility, Century Regional Detention Facility, and Pitchess Detention Center. Persons arrested by LASD deputies or transferred into county custody are searchable through the LASD Inmate Information Center.

Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD)

LAPD operates its own jail facilities at each of its 21 community police stations. Persons arrested by LAPD may be held at an LAPD station jail before being released or transferred to county custody. The LASD locator will not show a person held at an LAPD facility.

Independent Municipal Police Departments

Cities such as Long Beach, Pasadena, Santa Monica, and others operate independent police departments with their own booking processes. Persons arrested by a municipal department may be held locally before transfer. Check the arresting city's police department directly.
